off-ice training

conditioning

Our off-ice conditioning classes focus on building strength and flexibility specifically tailored for figure skaters. These sessions incorporate a variety of exercises aimed at enhancing core stability, leg strength, and overall athleticism, which are crucial for executing jumps and spins with precision. Additionally, flexibility training helps skaters improve their range of motion and reduce the risk of injury. Led by knowledgeable coaches, these classes create a comprehensive training regimen that supports on-ice performance, ensuring skaters develop the physical attributes needed to excel in the sport. Off-ice classes are available in-person or remotely via zoom.

dance

Our off-ice dance classes for figure skaters are designed to enhance rhythm, flexibility, and overall artistry. These classes focus on various dance styles including ballet, contemporary, jazz and hip hop, helping athletes develop their musicality, expressiveness and stage presence, which are essential for captivating performances on the ice. Through engaging choreography and movement exercises, skaters improve their body awareness and coordination, translating these skills into their on-ice routines. Led by experienced instructors, our off-ice dance classes provide a fun and dynamic way for skaters to boost their confidence and creativity while strengthening their dance foundations and bringing their programs to life.

harness

Our off-ice harness lessons provide a unique opportunity for figure skaters to refine their jumping and spinning techniques in a safe and controlled environment. Using specialized harnesses, athletes can focus on their body mechanics and positioning without the fear of falling. This innovative training method allows skaters to practice complex maneuvers while building strength and confidence. With personalized guidance from our experienced coaches, these sessions are an essential complement to on-ice training, helping skaters improve their skills and enhance their performance.

community

Our programs emphasize the importance of collaboration, where athletes not only develop their individual skills but also learn the value of teamwork and support. In our team training sessions, skaters work together to refine their techniques, share feedback, and encourage one another, creating a positive environment that enhances personal growth.

This sense of community extends beyond the ice. In collaboration with the Heart of Texas Figure Skating Club, we host team-building activities, social events, and showcases that allow skaters and their families to connect, celebrate achievements, and foster a spirit of inclusivity. By nurturing both individual talent and team spirit, we empower our skaters to thrive, making their journey in figure skating a rewarding and enjoyable experience. Join us and be part of a vibrant skating community that supports and inspires one another every step of the way!

A skater’s journey

  • It all starts with that first step. Beginners of all ages are encouraged to get on the ice and go for it! Instruction will begin with FOUNDATIONS: fundamental, basic skills needed to hone balance, posture and confidence on the ice.

  • When the FOUNDATION is set, the BUILDING can begin. Skaters that have mastered all the FOUNDATION skills progress on to what are termed "Aspire" skills which include basic spin positions (upright, sit, and camel) as well as beginning single jumps (waltz, salchow, toe loop, loop, flip and lutz).

  • As you build your skill set, your opportunities to GROW as a skater will widen. This includes exploring the many branches and disciplines that figure skating has to offer. There is something for everyone in skating, not just in how far you want to take your craft but also the multitude of directions you can explore:

    Freeskate - Singles & Pairs

Ice Dance - Pattern & Free, Solo & Partnered

    Synchronized Skating

Team Maneuvers - High School & Collegiate levels

    Showcase - Singles, Duets/Trios, Ensembles

    Theater on Ice

  • As skaters continue to master technical skills, they may choose to put these skills to the test by embarking down US Figure Skating's TESTING track. This pathway toward USFS Gold Medalist status involves evaluations by certified judge panels offered in multiple disciplines:

Skating Skills - Freeskate - Pairs - Pattern Ice Dance - Free Dance

Skating Skills tests must always be passed prior to the corresponding level test in another discipline. Levels are generally:

    PrePreliminary - Preliminary - PreBronze - Bronze - PreSilver - Silver - PreGold Gold

  • No matter how early or far you are in your journey, level-wise or age-wise, there are opportunities for you to show it off, you can SELL IT to the crowd in exhibitions and shows or to the judging panel in competition.

Exhibition opportunities through Heart of Texas Figure Skating Club: Pond Holiday Showcase, Four Seasons Austin, Long Center, numerous exhibitions throughout the year.
